Ryan Reynolds has been playing Wade Wilson, aka Deadpool, for a while now, so he’s pretty familiar with the ins and outs of his role. That includes having to wear a somewhat tight-fitting superhero costume. While getting into a spandex suit for an upcoming Marvel movie may not be the most fun activity, it looks like Reynolds’ suit has been at least useful. The fan-favorite actor has revealed that the suit has saved him from a “serious hospital accident” on many occasions. While talking about it, he also opened up about filming the long-awaited trilogy, who knew it would be so intense?
In the first trailer for Deadpool & Wolverine it was already clear that the Merc with a Mouth was going to suffer a lot (as usual). Although the Canadian actor doesn’t do all of the stunts as the red-and-black-suited antihero, he does participate in some of the physically demanding aspects of the job. Therefore, it seems that he appreciates having a durable suit. He recently talked about his outfit on the Yours Mine Away podcast (posted on YouTube), presented by Wrexham AFC goalkeeper Mark Howard. When Howard asked if the supersuit was as durable as a football player’s uniform, the star responded:

Deadpool’s suit is very well armored. I could probably say there are between 10 and 15 times the suit has saved me from a serious hospital visit. … Actually no. It’s really well structured, it’s well done. It is a feat of engineering as much as aesthetics. It has that thick, armored type of layer. It is very airtight.
At first glance, the suit doesn’t look all that protective, but I’m glad to know that’s not the case. If I were in Ryan Reynolds’ shoes, I would certainly want to be protected as best as possible. I feel it especially when I think about some of the wild action sequences he and the talented stuntmen have shot in the first two films (which can be streamed with a Disney+ subscription). It seems that the third installment has also put the actor and his collaborators to the limit. Reynolds went on to talk about the ups and downs of working on the production, which was still filming at the time of the interview:
I had never shot a Deadpool movie outside of the summer until this one. Hollywood went on strike, as you may have heard. So we closed for many months. The film was approached and written. I wrote large parts to take place in summer, trying to shoot the film in natural settings rather than on a set, so it’s been tough doing it in winter with seven hours of usable British daylight… But those are the days I’m grateful to wear the suit, because for once I’m not sweating buckets.”
It sounds awkward, but as a film fan, I appreciate their goal of using real environments instead of just soundstages. However, this has caused some complications, as several photos from the filming set have been leaked. However, the protagonist defended himself by sharing some photos of himself from the set. Aside from that, his efforts and those of his colleagues are certainly appreciated.

What is known now about Deadpool & Wolverine is that we will see Wade Wilson enter the Marvel Cinematic Universe through the Temporal Variation Authority. While traveling through the multiverse, he encounters notable characters such as Pyro and the film’s co-lead, Logan, played by Hugh Jackman. I can’t wait to see what kind of wild journey the titular heroes go on, and I’m glad Ryan Reynolds didn’t have to make any trips to the hospital during production.
Deadpool & Wolverine opens in theaters on July 26 as part of the 2024 movie schedule.
