Wrexham’s brave adventure in the FA Cup has come to an end as they suffered a 3-1 defeat to Sheffield United in their fourth round replay.
An emphatic Paul Mullin penalty canceled out Anel Ahmedhodzic’s earlier effort, but the Wrexham striker missed a great chance to put them ahead when his second penalty of the night was saved by Adam Davies.
The Welsh side were punished for their lack of composure when Billy Sharp put the Blades back in front in the fourth minute of stoppage time after a Max Cleworth error.
Sander Berge made it 3-1 with a powerful shot to seal Paul Heckingbottom’s men a draw at home to Tottenham in the fifth round.
It’s heartbreaking for a Wrexham side, who were minutes away from victory over their Championship opponents and a glamor draw against a Premier League side when the two teams met last month.
However, co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney expressed pride in the team.
McElhenney tweeted: “Couldn’t be more proud of those men than I am right now. They gave absolutely everything. [love heart emoji].

Meanwhile, Reynolds said: “Very proud of these guys. And the more than 4,000 visiting followers who gave their all. @Wrexham_AFC.”
Grimsby delivered an upset, booking a trip to Southampton after a thumping 3-0 win over Championship Luton.
Harry Clifton and Danilo Orsi handed the League Two side control and when Danny Amos fired a free-kick into the top corner on the stroke of half time, the game was over for the Hatters.
Fleetwood are through after a 1-0 win over League One leaders Sheffield Wednesday.
A header from Carlos Mendes Gomes on the hour mark plunged the Owls as Town won a fifth round meeting with Burnley.
The Clarets secured their place thanks to two goals from Nathan Tella, the second in stoppage time, to beat Ipswich 2-1.
In a blistering start, Tella put Burnley ahead in the third minute, but 60 seconds later, Ipswich equalized through George Hirst.
However, Tella had the last word with four minutes of added time to send her side.
