War of bids for ‘Calamity Hustle’
An intense bidding battle has arisen in Hollywood for a new action comedy titled ‘Calamity Hustle’, which will reunite Ryan Reynolds and Channing Tatum on the big screen. Warner Bros. studios, along with streaming giants such as Amazon and Netflix, are in the dispute to acquire this project directed by Aaron and Adam Nee, known for their recent hit ‘The Lost City’.
The high cost of action comedy
The project has generated great expectations, and the figures speak for themselves. Initial offers from Warner Bros. were reportedly around $20 million for each actor, while Netflix and Amazon offered a joint pool of $50 million for Reynolds and Tatum to divide at their discretion. The Nee brothers could receive between $6 and $8 million. Recently, a bid of $175 million was submitted for the entire package, including production costs, bringing the total to nearly $55 million, a figure that puts the project out of reach for many film companies.
The plot and future of the project
The story follows a former Los Angeles detective turned private investigator who, after being extorted by a ruthless crime lord, must track down his estranged brother, who has interfered in a diamond heist. Although the script still requires additional development, the interest in ‘Calamity Hustle’ is a clear indicator that streaming platforms are willing to invest considerable sums despite rumors of cost-cutting.
Reynolds and Tatum, who will also produce the film through their respective companies, are currently involved in other film projects, with Reynolds filming ‘Deadpool 3’ and Tatum having completed ‘Magic Mike’s Last Dance’ and other projects. Anticipation for ‘Calamity Hustle’ is high, considering the actors’ previous success and the Nee brothers’ experience in creating action comedies with a nostalgic touch.
