US actor Ryan Gosling made it onto the Billboard Hot 100 for the first time with his song “I’m Just Ken” from the soundtrack of the film comedy “Barbie”. The song debuted at number 87, according to the US magazine of the same name. Although it is Gosling’s first time in the Hot 100, it is not in the charts overall: With “City of Stars” from the musical “La La Land” (2016), he has achieved two chart positions.
Ryan Gosling, 42, plays Ken, the famous toy doll’s boyfriend, in Barbie (Barbie is portrayed by Margot Robbie in the film). In his ballad, Ken laments his life as a second-class citizen in Barbieland. Because there the Barbies are the focus – while Kens are just Kens. “I’m just Ken,” Gosling sings in the song, “I’d be a ten anywhere else.” Fans are enthusiastic about the actor’s soulful performance – and are now even demanding an Oscar for best song.
“Barbie” album is streamed millions of times
But other music releases from “Barbie” are currently booming. The official “Barbie” album was streamed more than 50 million times on Spotify in the first weekend after the film’s release. It starts at number 2 in the Billboard 200 album charts. By the way: The album with 55 songs is longer than the film itself with a total duration of two and a half hours.
A look at the Spotify charts shows that hits from “Barbie” dominate both internationally and in Switzerland. While Billie Eilish’s “What Was I Made For” ranks third on the Top 50 Global charts, Dua Lipa’s “Dance the Night” and Ice Spice and Nicki Minaj’s “Barbie World” are at No. 4 and 7, respectively .
And the film also breaks one record after the other: According to industry estimates, the live-action adaptation by director Greta Gerwig grossed over 350 million dollars at the box office worldwide on the first weekend. The film is now even scratching the 1 billion mark – that would be historic after just three weeks.
