Actor Ryan Gosling decided to respond to critics of his performance in Barbie as Ken, claiming that he is older than this character.
Gosling stars opposite Margot Robbie as Barbie. The actor faced criticism after the release of the movie’s trailer.
In a new interview, Gosling responds to the notes on aging, saying he has a solution for those who don’t interact with Kane, according to Deadline.
“I would say, you know, if people don’t want to play Kane with me, there are plenty of other Kane to play with,” Gosling said in an interview with GQ.
Gosling points to director Greta Gerwig casting multiple actors in different versions of Kane such as Simo Liu, John Cena, and Nkoti Gatua.
He continued, “It’s funny. Have you thought about Ken before this? Everyone was fine with that. But suddenly, it’s like we cared about Ken all along. No, she didn’t. She never did. You never cared. That’s it.” The bottom line. If you really care about Beijing, you’ll know that no one cares about Beijing. Until your hypocrisy is exposed. That’s why I tell his story.”
Gosling said he takes an interest in “that dude now” and calls himself a puppet actor while promoting the film, adding, “Ken couldn’t come to accept that award, so I’m here to accept it for him.”
