Ryan Gauld signed for Sporting in 2014 and was contractually linked to the club until 2019. In Portugal, he also represented V. Setúbal, Aves and Farense before moving to the Vancouver Whitecaps, a team from Major League Soccer (MLS, a championship that brings together teams from United States and Canada), in 2021. This year he had what he says is one of the best of his career. In this interview with Record, the 27-year-old Scottish player talks about the future (his contract ends in December 2024) and how much he misses Portugal and Portuguese football.

A – Your contract with the Vancouver Whitecaps ends in December 2024. Do you want to stay or are you thinking of returning to Europe?

RG – Let’s see. I’m in my last year and we haven’t spoken yet. I like the club and the city, but it depends on what they want and offer. But I also enjoyed playing in Europe and I will listen to whoever wants to talk to me and decide.

A – Did you receive surveys or proposals this past year?

RG – No, I didn’t receive anything because I still had a year and a half left on the contract. That’s why I was focused on playing and helping the club and it will be the same thing next year. I have a contract and I’m not going to think much about the future but rather how I can help the club.
