NEW YORK. Renovation in Nashville is intensifying.
Now the Predators have also traded back star Ryan Ellis – to the Philadelphia Flyers.
Yes, it seems that Predator’s longtime general manager David Poile has decided that his club needs a thorough fresh start, because one by one the players who have been the core of team building on South Broadway over the past decade are disappearing.
Just over two weeks ago, Viktor Arvidsson was traded to the LA Kings and on Saturday it became clear that the back icon Ryan Ellis also played his last home game in Bridgestone Arena.
He was tripped on Saturday Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for Philippe Myers and former draft runner-up Nolan Patrick – who was immediately sent on to the Vegas Golden Knights. In the other direction came Cody Glass – the first player Vegas ever drafted.
“He’s probably disappointed today”
Ellis, 30, signed as recently as 2018 on an eight-year contract worth a total of SEK 430 million and has several times expressed a desire to spend his entire career in Nashville.
“He is probably disappointed today,” wrote longtime Predators reporter Adam Vingan on Twitter.
Several deals were made in the NHL before all the troops on Saturday afternoon were “frozen” in anticipation of this week’s expansion draft, when the new team Seattle Kraken is allowed to pick for players the other clubs do not protect (which is announced on Sunday)
- The New York Rangers swapped a seventh pick in the 2022 draft for newcomer Stanley Cup champion Barclay Goodrow, part of Tampa’s dreaded “identity chain.” At the same time, they sent center Brett Howden to Vegas and got defender Nick Desimone in return.
- Toronto Maple Leafs signed Jared McCann from Pittsburgh – for Swedish talent Filip Hållander and a draft pick.
- The San Jose Sharks acquired a new goalkeeper, in the form of Arizona’s Adin Hill. It cost the Czech goalkeeper Josef Korenar and a draft choice.
At the same time it is announced that St. Louis Blues will not protect Russian star Vladimir Tarasenko. He’s thus going to end up in Seattle.
