Ruzowitzky’s “Hinterland” celebrates its US premiere in San Francisco

The 26th “Berlin html5-dom-document-internal-entity1-amp-end Beyond” festival in San Francisco is scheduled to open at the end of next week with the psychological thriller “Nebenan”, the directorial debut of Daniel Brühl. The largest German-language film festival in the USA is showing more than a dozen films from Germany, Austria and Switzerland from March 11th to 16th. The thriller “Hinterland” by Austria’s Oscar winner Stefan Ruzowitzky, which is set in Vienna in the 1920s, is also set to celebrate its US premiere.

“We have a broad, diverse mix of comedies to the blockbuster ‘Hinterland’,” festival director Sophoan Sorn told dpa. It opens with Daniel Brühl’s “Next Door”. Main actor Peter Kurth (“Babylon Berlin”) will come to the US west coast for this.

Other films in the programme: “Ivie wie Ivie”, about two German half-sisters with an African father, and “Ein nasser Hund” about a young Iranian in Berlin who hides his Jewish roots when he joins a group of Muslim teenagers. Leading actor Doguhan Kabadayi, born in Berlin in 2001, is also expected as a guest in San Francisco.
