Former coach of the hockey national team Vladimír Růžička will lead the first-league Kadaň. After last season, the Olympic winner from Nagano ended in Hradec Králové, with whom he was eliminated in the quarterfinals of the extra league playoffs.
“A coach like Vladimír Růžička certainly has ambitions to work in higher competitions, but on Wednesday at 10 am he starts on the ice with Kadaní,” said Trhač’s owner Petr Klíma on the club’s website.
Růžička already helped Kadani last summer as a consultant, now she is returning to the club. His assistant will be Daniel Branda.
Kadaň finished last year in the second highest competition under the leadership of the coaching duo Petr Rosol, Vladimír Jeřábek last, gaining only 16 points in 34 rounds.
Fifty-eight-year-old Růžička led the national team as a coach to triumphs at the World Championships in 2005 and 2010. In the extraleague, he collected long-term success with Prague’s Slavia, with which he won two titles, three silver and two bronze medals. From 2015 to 2019, he led Chomutov, where he finished after the Pirates relegated from the extra league.
