In January of this year, Ruud was diagnosed with colon cancer, who tells the radio show that it was Simon Keizer who pointed out to him that it is important to check yourself regularly. “In the end I had surgery and after the operation the surgeon said: ‘At least you don’t have prostate cancer’ (…) I spoke to Simon about the self-check, but that was much wider. Self-check also applies to colon cancer unfortunately, and I have not done that.”

And according to the radio DJ that is important because if he himself had been there two years earlier, they could have cut out his cancer with a scope.
Last week, the radio maker underwent a tough operation, but he says that he is doing well under the circumstances. “It sounds very strange, but you get used to it,” Ruud explains. “Rehabilitation is part of it (…) And when I see what a happy life I got back despite everything, I am very grateful.”
