Rutte wants supermarkets to do more to comply with corona rules | NOW

Prime Minister Mark Rutte believes that supermarkets should monitor more closely that customers comply with the corona rules. He said that during the press conference on Tuesday evening. According to him, the supers will soon come up with proposals to improve compliance with the rules.

Rutte indicates that the cabinet is discussing this with representatives of the sector. “A lot of money is currently being made at supermarkets. So the resources are there to invest,” said the prime minister on Tuesday evening.

He is referring to the fact that supermarkets have seen their sales increase sharply since the lockdown. It is also one of the few sectors that is allowed to be open after 8 p.m. The proposals supermarkets will make should become clear in the coming days.

Conversely, supermarket umbrella organization CBL would like the cabinet to relax some corona-related rules. It concerns the elderly hour and the ban on selling alcohol after 8 pm. The supers want the cabinet to temporarily scrap these measures in the days before Christmas. They have also called on municipalities to extend the times during which supermarkets can be supplied.
