At the moment, the ministers involved are still at the Ministry of General Affairs. The news has not yet been officially confirmed.
An extra Council of Ministers has been called in at 9:30 p.m. Afterwards, caretaker Prime Minister Mark Rutte will give a press conference. It is not clear how long the meeting of all ministers will last.
The top of the cabinet met for the third day in a row on Friday evening to negotiate migration. Rutte had promised his party that there would be a package with stricter asylum measures this week. He therefore sharpened the negotiations on Wednesday evening during the first meeting.
Tensions between the parties ran high. The family reunification in particular went wrong. The VVD wants to limit this considerably for war refugees, because they would stay here temporarily.
This was a red line for the Christian Union. Also different intermediate variants could not bring the parties together. According to sources, it was also the ChristenUnie that took the initiative for the cabinet fall, but the party itself has not yet confirmed that.
Cabinet Rutte IV has therefore not completed the four-year journey. It is still unknown when new elections will be held. Until then, the cabinet is caretaker.
