The European heads of government were in complete agreement tonight, says outgoing Prime Minister Rutte: Belarus has gone way too far with the hijacking of the Ryanair flight. After only 2.5 hours of talks, the countries agreed that sanctions should be imposed on the country. Prime Minister Rutte calls the speed of the government leaders on Monday night “unprecedented”.
Earlier in the evening, it was announced that European countries want sanctions to be introduced against Belarus. “I have never experienced it myself that we as government leaders were so quickly resolved. It shows how seriously we take this”, Prime Minister Rutte said after the summit in conversation with journalists. “Everyone was really done with it.”
