Rutschman homers; Orioles beat Angels

Rookie Adley Rutschman hit his first home run at Camden Yards, and the Baltimore Orioles reached a season-high five-game winning streak with a 4-1 win over the Los Angeles Angels on Thursday.

Jordan Lyles (5-7) pitched into the seventh inning, allowing one run on five hits. He struck out four and walked a couple during his 104-pitch stint.

Baltimore’s starters have given up one run or fewer 15 times in the past 20 games, posting a 2.46 ERA.

Puerto Rican Jorge López pitched the ninth inning for his 15th save in 19 chances.

The Angels fell to 1-5 on their nine-visit road trip. They entered the season with playoff aspirations but are 38-46, two games worse than the Orioles, the team with the lowest payroll in the majors.

Rutschman gave Baltimore a 1-0 lead in the second inning with a solo homer off fellow rookie Chase Silseth (1-3).

For the Angels, the Dominican Jonathan Villar 4-2. The Venezuelan Luis Rengifo 4-1.

For the Orioles, the Venezuelans Anthony Santander 4-2 with a run scored, Rougned Odor 3-0. Panamanian Jonathan Araúz 2-0. The Mexican Ramón Urías 1-1. Dominican Jorge Mateo 4-1 with a run scored.
