Rutger Castricum takes a serious dig at Welmoed Sijtsma. He portrays her as someone who is boring and not at all funny. “It’s all a bit tame”, he says.

Who would have thought: now that Jack van Gelder has completely fallen asleep as Hélène Hendriks’ sidekick, it is a kind of relief that Rutger Castricum is back from vacation. And he starts off well, because he shared in last night The Orange Summer immediately made some spicy sneers at Leonie ter Braak and Welmoed Sijtsma, among others.
Brave Welmoed
Leonie started her new daily news quiz Wat Een Dag on Monday on RTL 4 late evening and in the first episode Roelof Hemmen, Welmoed Sijtsma and René Meurs were guests.
A deadly boring panel, is Rutger’s verdict. “Leonie, I’m actually a big fan of, but there are people in such a panel who are not that funny and don’t really bring it and who are not incorrect either. It’s all a bit tame and then in that setting I actually found it a bit disappointing.”
‘Not broken’
Fellow guest Albert Verlinde is also not impressed. “I have been watching. I was asked if I wanted to participate in the pilot, but I saw that tape then and I was not that impressed. (…) Now I would say Wat Een Drama is a better title for the program, but it also has to grow.”
Albert also lashes out at Welmoed. “What I found really dramatic, and I have to say this – it has nothing to do with the program and nothing to do with Leonie, is that when you do a program like that and you put two ‘journalists’ on it, like Welmoed and Roelof Hemmen, and they know nothing…”
‘Really dramatic’
Roelof in particular gets it. “Roelof Hemmen didn’t even know that the hot air balloon with the Olympic flame was in Paris. Then I think: isn’t that bad?”, says Albert. “And if you think that the campaign money for the American elections is 500 billion… That’s dramatic for a former newsreader, isn’t it? I actually found that really bad to see.”
Rutger: “Do you want to see that in a quiz format? Leonie can do that very well in a talk show setting.”
Jack intervenes
Jack van Gelder then ruins the whole item by being incredibly nuanced. “What are you doing? First of all, it is a program that is directly opposite to us. I think it is so weak that we are now burning a program down to the shoelaces after one day.”
Huh?! Isn’t that what the SBS 6 talk shows are all about? VI scores very well with it too. Albert disagrees with Jack: “They only get better from it… We help them to become stronger!”
‘Don’t like it’
Where Jack used to be very sharp, he now acts like Mother Teresa of SBS 6. “I really don’t like this. I’m quite sharp, but I find it so easy to criticize a program. Let’s see what it is and let the viewer decide.”
