Rutger Castricum addresses controversy over his remarks on women’s football in De Oranjezomer

Rutger Castricum responded during the broadcast of De Oranjezomer on Friday to the fuss that arose earlier this week about his statements about women’s football. The well-known POWNED journalist appears to have been particularly addressed in his own circle.

“I can still keep up with that level”, Castricum said earlier this week. “Five overplays, one shot on target and it’s always a goal. I can’t say it anymore, but I can’t look at it anymore,” the presenter put bad blood at, among others, fellow table guest Estevana Polman. “That’s a bit ugly,” the handball player responded.

In Friday’s broadcast, Castricum has to admit that he has had quite a few reactions to his words. “I had to deal with some phone calls, I had made some jokes about women’s football here and that has caused quite a stir in my personal environment,” said the journalist. “There were also mothers in the area and friends who said: my daughter also plays football.”

But they misunderstood him: “I’ve never said here that I object to that, only I don’t like looking at it very much.” Castricum’s own daughter plays hockey, but she too could one day decide to play football. “Then I have to look very hard for someone who goes with her every Saturday to watch,” Castricum jokingly concludes.
