Russo Brothers Express Interest in Working with James Gunn for Future DC Project

Joe Russo et Anthony Russothe brothers behind Avengers : Infinity War et Avengers : Endgamerevealed that they would very much like to work with James Gunn within the future DCU.

Joe and Anthony Russo have worked extensively on television, notably on the brilliant Arrested Development et Community before being propelled to the top of the box office. After the surprise success of Captain America: The Winter Soldier in 2014, the two men thus became the masters of the MCU by carrying out the imitation Avengers Captain America : Civil Warbut especially the diptych Infinity War et Endgame. As for James Gunn, the other flagship director of the MCU cosmic finger snapping period, he is about to bid farewell to Mickey, with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3to take the lead in the competing universe.

And according to the new thinking head of the opposing team, Marvel and DC are not at war, on the contrary. The Russo brothers, they have remained very busy after giving birth to the second biggest success in the history of cinema (excluding inflation). And while they were present for a preview of Citadeltheir new creation for Amazon, the Russo brothers have revealed that they would love to work with their former colleague on a DC project.

“We love James [Gunn], we love it. We are wholeheartedly with him for his projects there. [chez DC]. And we would love to work with him anytime. But that wouldn’t be for Batman. »

They went on to say that when asked who their favorite hero is, they often try to think of a catchy and quirky character, but each time the only answer that comes to them is Batman. The two men would therefore not have a very precise idea of ​​​​the project on which they could work for James Gunn.

The Dark Knight meanwhile will not be asked to return. Indeed, the version of Matt Reeves will be entitled to its sequel with The Batman 2 scheduled for October 1, 2025, as well as a serial spin-off on the character of the penguin played by Colin Farrell. These projects will however be part of an independent universe of that developed by the new architect of the DC universe in films and series.

Regarding James Gunn and his plans for the DCU, he has planned well a new version of the character with The Brave and the Boldwhich however should not arrive before 2026.
