He stated that Russia’s war against Ukraine has significantly destabilized the Black Sea region, the online newspaper “Romania Journal” reported.
“We don’t see the end of this war right now, and while we admire the resilience of Ukrainian society in the face of Russian attacks, we also need to prepare for a long-term confrontation with the regime of the Russian Federation,” Petrescu said at a forum organized by the Euroatlantic Center for Resilience project in Bucharest.
He warned that there is always a risk of incidents at NATO’s border, as drones and missiles may stray from their intended course. “For Romanian infrastructure or commercial vessels [Rumānijas] territorial waters can be hit unintentionally,” he added.
Another threat is drifting sea mines in the Black Sea, the head of the Romanian army stressed.
