Weapons of war expert assess in vain for Russia if building robotic tank destroyers from the countries of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).
Previously, the former director general of the Roscosmos space agency, Dmitry Rogozin, said that he was studying research with the Android Technology company to modify the Marker robot into a tank destroyer combat tool.
Sam Bendett, a security analyst from the Center for American Security Studies and adviser to the CNA Corporation, said it was likely Russia would only send a small number of anti-tank robots.
“It is possible that three of the five Markers will be tested first in Ukraine and will lose. It is also possible that Android Technology is willing to respond to the (Russian Ministry of Defense)’s need to arm the robot. This possibility also indicates that the company is working on other projects for the manufacture of Markers,” said Bendett as quoted from Defense One.
However, Bendett doubted the Marker robot could be very effective in destroying NATO and US tanks.
“The previous test of the Marker that was made public was against a small UAV (Unmanned Vehicle) and this (Marker type) was tested in complex terrain such as a jungle. But not on a real battlefield when many attempts were made to destroy the robot,” said Bendett.
“Moreover, Western tanks will be part of a combat formation with air support such as drones and UAVs that will hunt every target from Russia, including Markers. But if Rogozin says that the robot will be used as a scout, it still makes sense,” said Bendett .
Previously, Rogozin claimed that the Marker robot would be equipped with heavy weapons to destroy main battle tanks from NATO countries.
“For example, as soon as deliveries of Abrams and Leopard tanks to Ukrainian troops begin, the Marker will be equipped with electronic imaging to detect and destroy US and German tanks with anti-tank guided missiles,” Rogozin said, as quoted by Sputnik, Thursday (25/1).
