Russia’s UN ambassador on Friday refused to participate in a minute’s silence for Ukrainians who have lost their lives in the war, asking that “all” those killed be shown respect.
The incident occurred when Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba prayed for a minute of silence for the “victims of the aggression”, according to Sky News.
As he and other meeting participants stood up, Russian UN Ambassador Vasiliy Nebenzia began pounding on his microphone, causing everyone to sit back down.
– We stand up to show respect for the memory of at the victims of what has happened in Ukraine, which began in 2014, Nebenzia said.
– All those who disappeared. All lives are irreplaceable, he added.
