Russia is short of its own production of munitions needed for its invasion of Ukraine, Western officials said today on condition of anonymity, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.
Russia’s defense industry is struggling against the effects of the sanctions, the officials said, adding that Moscow’s inability to procure Western spare parts is undermining its ability to produce new weapons systems and repair old ones.

“Russia’s domestic munitions production capabilities are currently insufficient to meet the needs of the conflict in Ukraine,” the Western officials summarized.
“Sanctions have dealt a severe blow to Russia’s military-industrial complex, causing serious delays and driving up costs,” they added.
The assessment comes as the war in Ukraine enters its third year, with Russia taking the lead in the conflict after capturing Avdeyevka and amid warnings that Kiev is running out of ammunition.
Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived today in the Republic of Tatarstan, where he visited the Kazan Aviation Plant “S.P. Gorbunov”, TASS reported.
The Russian president visited one of the plant’s new workshops and inspected four fully modernized Tu-160M strategic bombers. These planes can carry nuclear weapons and are part of Russia’s so-called nuclear triad, TASS said.
Putin climbed into the cabin of one of the planes for ten minutes. When he learned that the bomber still had no name, the Russian president suggested that it be named in honor of the first president of Tatarstan, Mintimer Shaimiev. “This man did a lot for the whole country, for all of Russia,” Putin stressed.
