Russia and China are not creating a military alliance and are not hiding anything about their military cooperation, Russian President Vladimir Putin said today in an interview with Russian state television, Reuters reported, citing Russian news agencies.

At their meeting in Moscow earlier this week, Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping demonstrated deep friendship and said they would work for closer ties between Russia and China.

“We are not creating a military alliance with China. Yes, we are cooperating in the military-technical sphere. We are not hiding this. Everything is transparent, there is nothing secret,” Putin said, as quoted by the Interfax agency.

The Russian president also said Western powers were trying to create global alliances, accusing the US and NATO of starting to build a new “Axis” that resembles the World War II-era alliance between Germany, Italy and Japan.
