After allowing Russian and Belarusian athletes to qualify for the Olympics, the Swedish Fencing Federation has also decided not to hold two tournaments. “It is completely out of the question that we should organize competitions involving these two countries when they have started a very bloody war in Ukraine,” said Otto Drakenberg, president of the Swedish Fencing Federation, in a statement from the federation.
Accordingly, the International Fencing Federation FIE was informed that the two FIE events, the SAF Cup and the Rehbinder Prize, were being withdrawn. The competitions were scheduled for September 16th and 17th in Stockholm.
The World Cup in Germany has already been handed over
For the same reason, the German Fencing Federation had already given back the World Cup in Tauberbischofsheim planned for the beginning of May on Thursday.
