For the first time Russia uses Kinzhal . hypersonic missile latest in invasion of Ukraine. The advanced missile destroyed a weapons storage area in western Ukraine.
“The Kinzhal aviation missile system with hypersonic aeroballistic missiles destroyed a large underground warehouse containing missiles and aviation ammunition” in the village of Deliatyn in the Ivano-Frankivsk region, the Russian Defense Ministry said.
State news agency RIA Novosti said it was the first use of the Kinzhal hypersonic weapon during what Moscow called a “special military operation” in pro-Western Ukraine.
The missile was detonated near the border with Romania, Friday (18/3) local time. The Russian Ministry of Defense made an announcement on the use of these advanced weapons on Saturday (19/3), the 24th day of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
First Hypersonic Missile During Invasion of Ukraine
During the fighting, Russia has never admitted to using high-precision weapons. Russia’s RIA Novosti news agency said it was the first use of the Kinzhal (Dagger) hypersonic weapon during the conflict in Ukraine.
“The Kinzhal aviation missile system with hypersonic aero-ballistic missiles destroyed a large underground warehouse containing missiles and aviation ammunition in the village of Deliatyn in the Ivano-Frankivsk region”, the Russian Defense Ministry said.
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin called the Kinzhal (Dagger) missile an “ideal weapon” that flies at 10 times the speed of sound and can overcome air defense systems.
The Kinzhal missile is one of a series of new weapons that Putin unveiled in his state of the nation address in 2018. Deliatyn, a village at the foot of the picturesque Carpathian mountains, is located outside the city of Ivano-Frankivsk. The Ivano-Frankivsk region shares a 50-kilometre (30-mile) border. ) with NATO member Romania.
