Britain’s ambassador to the United Nations, Barbara Woodward, revealed today, Tuesday, that the Russian military may expand the targeting of more Ukrainian grain facilities, to include attacks against civilian shipping in the Black Sea.

“Our information indicates that Russia has laid naval mines in the waters leading to the ports of Ukraine in the Black Sea,” she told reporters.

It also indicated that British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak shared the information with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky during a phone call today.

“We agree with the US assessment that this is a concerted effort to justify any attacks on civilian ships in the Black Sea and to hold Ukraine responsible,” she added.

Russia’s mission to the United Nations did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

subversive purposes

This came, while the President of the Russian Federation Council, Valentina Matviyenko, stated that Ukraine, the United States and NATO “used the grain corridor in the Black Sea for sabotage purposes, and were not interested in providing humanitarian assistance to countries in need.”

Matviyenko said in a press conference today, Tuesday: “None of Ukraine, Washington and NATO were interested in the issue of providing assistance to countries in need of food support, and they had other goals, and they were sabotage and military targets – to use the grain corridor in acts of sabotage and terrorist attacks.”

NATO will not succeed in its plan.

She also added, commenting on the “Ukraine-NATO” Council meeting scheduled for July 26, that Kiev did not go to the United Nations, but rather went to NATO, explaining: “It is natural that NATO is interested in using the Black Sea, and it is clear for what reason, but it will not succeed in that, and of course NATO will not deliver food to African countries.”

Matvienko stressed that the Russian side will not allow the use of the Black Sea to deliver weapons to Ukraine and “to use it for subversive and terrorist purposes.”

The UN Security Council is scheduled to hold successive meetings on the situation in Ukraine on Wednesday.
