Russia’s Military Handover of 2,000 Units of Equipment, Including Tanks, to Wagner: Latest Updates

Jakarta

Government Russia announced that its military has received more than 2,000 units of military hardware, including tanks, from Wagner. The handover of the military equipment follows the mercenary group’s brief rebellion last month.

The armed group, which played a key role in the attack in Ukraine, is seeking to overthrow Russia’s military leadership during a brief uprising last month.

“More than 2,000 pieces of equipment and weapons have been handed over,” the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement, adding that those handed over included tanks, mobile rocket launchers and anti-aircraft systems.

Reported by the news agency AFP, Thursday (13/7/2023), the Russian military said it had obtained “more than 2,500 tons of various types of ammunition and about 20,000 small arms.” Much of the equipment, according to the ministry, had never been used in combat before.

The MoD also said the weapon had been moved to a rear position where it could be maintained or repaired.

The whereabouts of the Wagner boss, Yevgeny Prigozhincurrently unknown after a deal with the Kremlin that allowed him to be exiled to neighboring Belarus.

However, Belarusian authoritarian leader Alexander Lukashenko told reporters this month that the 62-year-old mercenary chief was not in his country, but still in Russia.

Earlier, the Kremlin confirmed that President Vladimir Putin had met with Prigozhin after Wagner’s forces attempted to overthrow the Russian military leadership.
