According to him, this assistance is in addition to the previously announced $120 million loan and non-lethal weapons that Canada has already provided to Ukraine. The purpose of the support is to deter further Russian aggression.
He said he spoke to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Saturday and reaffirmed Canada’s support as Russian forces harass Ukraine’s eastern border.
“The situation is rapidly deteriorating and we are demonstrating our resolve,” Trudeau said.
He noted that he also spoke with other European leaders over the weekend as fears are growing over a possible war in the region.
“It’s important for Canadians and the world to know that Canada will continue to support Ukraine, its independence, integrity and sovereignty, including its right to self-defense,” the Canadian Prime Minister said.
