Russia’s Invasion of Ukraine A Dealing Blow to Regional Peace

Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdogancondemn the invasion Russia to Ukraine today, Thursday (24/2). According to Erdogan, the invasion was a severe blow to regional peace.

“We reject Russian military operations… [Invasi ini merupakan] a crushing blow to the stability and peace of the region,” Erdogan said in a speech quoted as saying Reuters.

Erdogan also expressed his sadness over the conflict in Ukraine. He was saddened that the two countries “with which we have close political, economic and social relations (Turkey)” were against each other.

Prior to making this statement, Erdogan attended a security meeting in Ankara that was held after Russia launched its attack on Ukraine on Thursday morning.

During the meeting, the Russian invasion was called an act of violation of international law and unacceptable. The meeting also discussed policies that could be applied to Russia to end the invasion.

Turkey’s presidential office also said in a statement that his country will continue to support Ukraine’s political unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity.

In addition, the Turkish Foreign Ministry also urged Russia to stop their invasion.

“We consider this military operation unacceptable and reject it. We urge the Russian Federation to stop this unjust and unlawful act as soon as possible,” he said.

So far, Turkey is known to have good relations with Russia and Ukraine. Turkey also often acts as a neutral mediator between the two countries in dealing with conflicts.
