President Vladimir Putin claim Russia lead technology hypersonic missile global even beats own United States of America.
Putin said while other major powers were racing to create hypersonic weapons, Russia had developed technology to counter them.
In the documentary entitled “Russia. New History”, Putin said Moscow and Washington have almost the same number of hypersonic missile warheads and aircraft carriers.
“But in the development of these weapons, we who are more advanced, we are definitely leading this,” Putin said.
Putin also claims that Russia is the number one country in terms of developing weapons and the main tools of the defense system (defense equipment).
Putin said more countries would have similar hypersonic weapons technology in the future.
“When they get these weapons, they will most likely have the means to counter these weapons,” Putin said.
Putin’s remarks came after he claimed in November that Russia had successfully tested a Zicron hypersonic cruise missile.
He predicts the missile technology will be completed and put into service by the Russian navy in 2022.
However, some Western military experts question how sophisticated this new generation of Russian weapons is.
Moscow claims the Zicron has the combination of speed, maneuverability and altitude of a hypersonic missile making it more difficult to track and disable.
Sicron has 5 times the speed of sound in the upper atmosphere or about 6,200 kilometers per hour.
It is indeed slower than an intercontinental ballistic missile, but the hypersonic glide vehicle shape allows the Zicron to maneuver towards a target or away from defenses.
So far, Russia’s military budget is lower than that of the US. Russia put in $62 billion in 2020 military spending, while the US spent $778 billion in the same sector, according to World Bank data.
The US, China, and Russia continue to compete to develop new weapons, especially lethal hypersonic technology.
