Whoever receives the Russian vaccine against Covid-19, Sputnik V, should not drink alcohol for the next 42 days, recommended Russian Deputy Prime Minister Tatiana Golíkova, responsible for the vaccination plan, and the head of Russian health services, Anna Popova.
“Vaccinated people should avoid public places and reduce their intake of drugs and alcohol, which can suppress the immune system, in the first 42 days after the first of the two doses is applied,” warned Golíkova.
The campaign in Russia has already started this Saturday in the capital, in Moscow, and will extend to the rest of the country in the coming weeks. The vaccine is voluntary and takes two doses, three weeks apart.
The head of Russian health services, Anna Popova, said that alcohol consumption should be stopped “at least two weeks before immunization,” she said in an interview with The Moscow Times.
Like Tatiana Golíkova, Popova also recommended avoiding alcohol for 42 days after the first injection, explaining that “immunity was being developed” and “care needs to be taken”.
Anna Popova also advised that people who received the vaccine should also not smoke before and after the injection, as this could affect the immune response and cause some type of lung irritation.
Russia sent documents to the World Health Organization on Wednesday regarding the country’s second vaccine against covid-19 – EpiVacCorona – announced Anna Popova.
In the last 24 hours, 559 deaths and 26,190 new cases of covid-19 were registered in the country. In total, Russia accumulates 2.5 million infections, being the fourth country in the world most affected by SARS-CoV-2, after the United States, India and Brazil.
