According to doctors, “wind parties” are, in fact, a crime

The so-called “windmill parties” are gaining more and more popularity in Russia. The essence of the action is simple. Parents specially bring their healthy children to children with chickenpox. It seems like it’s better to get sick with this disease in childhood than to get infected in adulthood. Russians do not refuse such events even in a pandemic, when immunity, including in children, is weakened. Recent studies have shown that residents of Moscow, St. Petersburg, Moscow and Sverdlovsk regions show the greatest interest in contagious parties. In addition to chickenpox, a number of adults are not averse to infecting their baby with rubella, measles and some other childhood diseases. We found out what doctors think about these methods.

“There is a wonderful child with chickenpox. We are waiting for your visit! ”,“ My son needs to have chickenpox. Who can help? ”- posts of this kind appear more and more often in social networks. Many parents believe that chickenpox is an absolutely harmless disease, but only for children. It is because of this that it is imperative to be ill with them at a young age. Despite the fact that children are now being vaccinated against chickenpox, some parents consider infection a more effective way to protect themselves from childhood diseases in adulthood than vaccination. Some babies cannot be vaccinated for medical reasons.
– I remember how 25 years ago I myself specially drank from the same cup with a friend who fell ill with rubella, – says Natalya, mother of two preschoolers. – This disease is very dangerous for pregnant women, so it is better for all girls to have it beforehand. My eldest daughter is allergic, and she has a medical outlet for all childhood vaccinations. At the institute, I myself managed to get sick with mumps and chickenpox, and I know how hard childhood illnesses are borne in adulthood. That is why I decided to protect my daughter from these problems. We were lucky with rubella, a classmate fell ill in kindergarten, my daughter contracted it from him. And with chickenpox I had to look for help in social networks, in a special group I quickly found a mom with a sick boy, ready to receive us. My daughter just played with him for about an hour, and after a while the result was, as they say, on the face. No money was demanded from us for help, they brought a box of chocolates and an inexpensive toy to the boy.
The fashion for “windmill parties” came to Russia from the West. In the US, there is even a paid service for mailing a lollipop licked by a child with chickenpox. As a rule, deliberately infecting babies with childhood diseases is popular with anti-vaccine parents. In some cases, adults resort to such methods even when the child cannot be vaccinated for medical reasons.
Meanwhile, pediatricians strongly disagree with the idea.
deliberately infecting babies with any infections. According to pediatrician Natalya Lyubchenko, the problem is that chickenpox is not as harmless as it seems to adults; it can cause serious complications in childhood.
“In fact, how the body tolerates the disease depends on the person’s immunity, and not on his age,” the doctor explains. – Accordingly, in some cases, an adult can easily transfer chickenpox, and a baby can get complications. In addition, due to the coronavirus restrictions that have been with us for a year, many children are now immunosuppressed. Because of this, any disease can be more severe. In any case, the so-called “windmill parties” are essentially a crime that adults commit against their children. Before the pandemic, annually complications after chickenpox occurred in an average of 10 thousand children, and about 50 babies even died from the consequences of the disease. Chickenpox can cause severe infections of the skin, joints and soft tissues, pneumonia, encephalitis, and meningitis. It is impossible to predict how a child’s illness will proceed, especially now, when children have spent a long time at home and their immunity is weakened. In addition, after a person has had chickenpox, the virus remains in the body forever, subsequently it can cause, among other things, such a painful disease as shingles. Of course, the best option is to get your child vaccinated against chickenpox. If, for some reason, this is impossible, it is definitely not worth it to deliberately infect a child with this or other diseases.
