Russian woman participated in the launch program of the Perseverance rover

One of the engineers on the launch mission on Mars rover Perseverance, was a native of Petrozavodsk Olga Filimonova.

Olga is a philologist by her first education, the portal “Karelia.News” reports. However, then she left for the United States and received a specialty there as an aerospace engineer (an engineer working in the field of aerospace engineering). The girl admits that she had to study from scratch. She managed to graduate from the University of California Los Angeles and then receive work at NASA.

Olga’s position in the Mars 2020 project is mass properties engineer. She calculated the weight, inertia, gravitational center of every part of the spacecraft. She also designed a mass balancing device. They can be seen in the photo of the rover, made on Mars.

Currently, the Russian woman is working on another Nasa project – the launch of a spacecraft to Jupiter’s moon, Europe.

Mars rover Perseverance landed in Jezero crater February 18, 2021.
