Russian War Crimes: Video Shows Russians Leading Unarmed Ukrainian Soldiers at Gunpoint

The Ukrainian Ombudsman reported that a video is being distributed in the media in which Russians are leading captured (unarmed) Ukrainian Armed Forces soldiers at gunpoint towards Ukrainian positions and hiding behind them.

“The video shows the moment when, with a high probability, a grenade explodes near a group of Russian soldiers and unarmed Ukrainian prisoners,” the report says.

The video also captures the moment when a Russian soldier fires a shot in the direction of unarmed people who are running in the opposite direction from the positions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. A few seconds later, when the drone operator zooms in again, the body of a fighter in the uniform of the Ukrainian Armed Forces is already lying on the ground.

Lubinets noted that if the actions with the video are established as official and truthful, this will indicate that the Russian Federation has violated another article of the third Geneva Conventions.

“Namely, Article 23, which states that no prisoner of war can ever be sent to an area in which he would be threatened by fire from a combat zone. And also prisoners of war cannot be used to protect any points or areas from military operations,” – stated the Ombudsman.

The Zaporozhye regional prosecutor’s office reported that it had launched an investigation into violations of the laws and customs of war. Primary investigative (search) actions are now being carried out.

Reaction of the Ukrainian Armed Forces

StratCom stated that not a single warrior would stoop to hiding behind prisoners. They noted that this is another illustration of the barbaric essence of Russian aggression against Ukraine.

“For these and other war crimes, the Russian military and their leadership will definitely be punished by an international tribunal,” the Ukrainian Armed Forces StratCom added.
