Details: The adopted ban stipulated that Russian cars already in the country must be removed by March 16, 2024.
The head of the control department of the Finnish Customs Service, Sami Rakshit, noted that it is still difficult to predict what will happen to Russian cars after this date.
According to him, an assessment will be carried out as to why the car is still in Finland, how long it has been here, and whether the necessary formalities have been completed for its part.
A more detailed action plan is still in development, the customs official added.
Background:
- Lithuanian customs recently warned that cars with Russian registration numbers must leave Lithuania and the entire EU territory by March 11, 2024.
- Now all the Baltic countries have banned the entry of cars with Russian license plates. Poland, Finland, Norway and Bulgaria also introduced these bans.
- However, Russians use Kaliningrad by transit train in order to enter the European Union through Lithuania.
