Russian Troops Withdraw from Bakhmut Direction, Revealing Weakness in Russian Army

British intelligence confirms that over the past four days, units of the Russian 72nd Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade (72nd Motorized Rifle Brigade) have probably withdrawn from their positions on the southern flank of the Bakhmut direction. Ukrainian forces have regained at least a kilometer of territory.

For Russia, this sector of the front was of tactical importance, since it is a bridgehead on the western side of the Donetsk-Donbass canal.

At the same time, intelligence notes that the 72nd brigade, which is part of the Russian 3rd Army Corps, was limitedly ready for battle. Its transfer to the front indicates problems in the Russian army.

“Its deployment to such a demanding and operationally critical sector highlights Russia’s serious shortage of reliable combat units,” the intelligence said.
