Russian state media reported on Monday morning that Russian troops have partially withdrawn from the western bank of the Dnipro River near Kherson. Later that day they withdrew their messages.
The Russian Defense Ministry says the “false publications” are linked to a Ukrainian “fake account”. Ukraine says the Russians have been ravaged by a domestic disinformation campaign.
Publications on several Russian state media stated that the Ministry of Defense was moving troops “to more favorable positions”. This would involve troops being moved from the western to the eastern banks.
According to The Moscow Times the publications could be read on state news agencies TASS in Ria Novosti. The messages can no longer be found.
The fake messages looked credible because the language in the messages resembled that of previous withdrawal announcements. The Kremlin did not want to comment on the incident and referred it to the Ministry of Defense.

Is the war in Ukraine now at an impasse or not?
Ukrainians appear to have reached the eastern bank
The Dnipro near Kherson has been the front line between Ukrainian and Russian troops for weeks. The Ukrainians try to cross the river and continue their advance.
Remarkably, the fake report about the Russian withdrawal came exactly a year after Russians withdrew from the banks of the Dnipro and the city of Kherson.
The battle for the Dnipro remains fierce. Russia said on Friday it had repulsed a Ukrainian attempt to set foot on the eastern bank. Nevertheless, the Ukrainians managed to get soldiers and equipment to the eastern bank of the river last week, the American report said Institute for the Study of War.
