Russian Troops Occupy Kharkiv Region, Mandatory Evacuation Orders Issued

Russian troops occupied large areas of the Kharkiv region shortly after re-invading Ukraine in February 2022 and have continued their efforts to conquer the area, despite losing ground there.

“Taking into account the security situation, we are implementing a mandatory evacuation of residents from Kindrashivsk and Kurilivsk communities of Kupyansk region,” Oleh Sinehubov, the head of Kharkiv region administration, announced on social networks.

Sinehubov announced that the order to evacuate will affect approximately 3,043 residents, including 279 children. He did not elaborate on what exactly the threat from Russia is.

Russian forces are trying to capture the regional center of Kupyansk, an important railway junction. The city had about 30,000 inhabitants before the war.

Ukraine regularly orders civilians to evacuate towns and villages under Russian attack, but residents do not always comply.
