Russian troops concentrate forces in eastern Donetsk oblast… It seems they are trying to attack the northwest

A large-scale attack to the north could soon begin there as the Russian army continues to mobilize forces in the eastern province of Donetsk, British Defense Ministry intelligence said on the 27th.

The war situation in Ukraine has been developing in a different phase since the beginning of October. Russia is focusing on missile strikes against Ukraine’s energy infrastructure while passively defending the existing 1,000km east-west front line from Donbass to Kherson via Zaporizhzhia.

The destruction of Ukraine’s private infrastructure and the widespread power outages at the beginning of the winter season are manifesting themselves in the form of war. However, it is also a proxy missile war where there are only Russian missiles and Russian soldiers hiding in the defensive trenches.

Russia’s strategy is to cut off electricity and water supplies to the 1-5 million Ukrainians who depend on electricity for the winter, which has well over 100 days until the end of March next year, to lose their spirits combative and push them to negotiate on their own. It seems that the winter of the Ukrainian people will have to be several times colder than now for this type of “winter” weapon to work for President Zelensky and the Ukrainian military.

Right now, the fact that the Russian army is actively gathering strength from the trenches to break through the rough east-northwest Donetsk road is attracting attention as it may lead to a new phase.

In this regard, the War Research Institute in Washington has lost its vitality due to bad weather such as sleet and snow, but the battle is expected to be activated when the temperature drops further below freezing and the ground freezes.

Russia has launched a “total liberation” operation in eastern Donbass, with pro-Russian separatists occupying 40% of Donetsk province eight years ago. However, with the exception of the capture of Mariupol in the southwest at the end of May, the advance towards Bakmut, Kramatorsk and Sloviansk in the northwest failed each time for nearly five months from the end of June.

As a result, Russian occupation of Donetsk Oblast remains at 55%.
