Russian Top Manager Found Dead in Pre-Trial Detention Center Under Mysterious Circumstances

Igor Shkurko, deputy general director and chief engineer of Yakutskenergo, was found dead in the Yakutsk pre-trial detention center in Russia.

Details: It is reported that Shkurko ended up in a pre-trial detention center on March 31 after being detained in a bribery case.

The Federal Penitentiary Service of the Russian Federation claims that the top manager committed suicide on April 4. “The accused was found in the cell of the pre-trial detention center with no signs of life. Medical workers pronounced him dead. An investigative team was called to the scene. According to preliminary data, no signs of a criminal death were found,” – says in her release.

However, MT notes that Shkurko did not agree with the arrest and appealed against it on the eve of his death, on April 3. The Investigative Committee declined to comment on this information. Yakutskenergo also ignored requests from the media.

In total, according to MT estimates, about 40 Russian top managers, businessmen and managers died in 15 months under unclear circumstances.

Reference. 49-year-old Igor Shkurko was responsible for the technical management of PJSC Yakutskenergo, which is owned by RusHydro. The late top manager is survived by his wife and two sons. Prior to his appointment at Yakutskenergo, Shkurko worked as the general director of OAO South Yakutsk Electric Networks. He was a member of the Aldan District Council from United Russia. After his detention, the party suspended his membership.
