Most Russian tennis players have not yet received British visas a month before the start of Wimbledon. Lev Kassil, the agent of the first racket of Russia, Daniil Medvedev, as well as Erika and Mirra Andreev, announced this at the business breakfast “Sport under restrictions”.
“At the moment, only 15 percent of Russian tennis players have received visas. The main part – did not receive. Everyone is in limbo, ”quotes TASS Kassil.
The agent complained that visa applications were not considered in the express format. “There is such an option when applying for a UK visa – you can pay more so that the consideration is expedited. But they took money from our and Belarusian tennis players, and then they refused to consider it in the express format. We hope that visas will be given to everyone, but I think this will be done at the last moment,” Kassil added.
Mirra Andreeva spoke about the risk of missing Wimbledon due to lack of a visa
Earlier, 16-year-old Mirra Andreeva, who reached the third round at Roland Garros, her first Grand Slam tournament in her career, said she still had not received a British visa.
Wimbledon will be held from 3 to 16 July.
To be admitted to Wimbledon this season, Russian and Belarusian tennis players must sign a “declaration of neutrality”, in which they undertake, in particular, not to make statements in support of the special operation in Ukraine.
Last year, Russian and Belarusian tennis players were not allowed to Wimbledon. ATP and WTA for this deprived the tournament of rating points, and also fined.
Ivan Vitchenko.
