Zvonareva was supposed to participate in the Poland Open tournament on July 23, but she could not cross the border, because she is on the list of persons whose stay in Poland is undesirable.
It is noted that the tennis player tried to enter Poland using a visa issued by France when she flew from Belgrade to Warsaw.
After arriving from Serbia, Zvonareva remained in the transit zone of the Warsaw Chopin Airport and after 12:00 local time on July 22 flew to Montenegro, because the Polish border guards did not let her in for reasons of national security and public order.
“Poland consistently opposes the regimes of Putin and Lukashenko, refusing entry to our country to persons who support the actions of Russia and Belarus,” the statement says.
Note that in 2014, Zvonareva thanked Russian dictator Vladimir Putin on social networks for “appeal to all peoples and public explanation of the position” regarding the occupation of Ukrainian Crimea by Russian invaders.
Recall that recently Norwegian tennis player Ulrikke Eikeri apologized for her performance at the Wimbledon 2023 tournament in a duet with Russian Alexandra Panova and assured of support for Ukraine and Ukrainians.
