Moscow –
Russian tanker was hit by a Ukrainian drone strike in the waters of the Kerch Strait, which runs between mainland Russia and Crimea which was annexed from Ukraine in 2014. Russia also threatened to retaliate against Ukraine’s actions which they called a “terrorist act”.
Reported ReutersSunday (6/8/2023), Russia and Ukraine on Saturday (5/8) said a Ukrainian sea drone loaded with explosives had attacked a Russian fuel tanker. The Kremlin called the attack threatening the lives of the crew members and risking a “large-scale environmental disaster”.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that Moscow would retaliate. According to him, Ukraine, supported by Western countries, continues to apply new terrorist methods to attack Russia.
“The Kyiv regime, which has not come under fire from Western countries and international organizations, is actively implementing new terrorist methods, this time in the waters of the Black Sea,” Zakharova said in a statement.
“There is no justification for such barbaric acts, they will not go unpunished and the person behind the attack and the perpetrators will surely be punished,” he added.
Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev earlier on Saturday advised Moscow to launch more attacks on Ukrainian ports in response to the Kyiv attack on Russian ships in the Black Sea. Medvedev also called on Moscow to threaten Ukraine with an “ecological disaster”.
Previously reported, a Russian tanker was hit by a Ukrainian drone strike in the waters of the Kerch Strait, which stretches between mainland Russia and Crimea which was annexed from Ukraine since 2014. The latest Kyiv attack brought traffic on Crimea’s bridge to a temporary halt.
As reported AFPSaturday (5/8/2023), a report by the Russian news agency, TASS, citing the Maritime Rescue Center said the tanker was damaged in the attack and two tugboats or tugboats have been deployed to the location.
