Vereker published statistics on the losses of the Russian Armed Forces in the T-72. At the moment, tanks of this type produced in 2016 have ceased to appear in the report, although previous years were included regularly. So, in the first months of the invasion, dozens were destroyed, at the end of 2023 – a few, and in January of this year – 0.
Military commentator and IDF officer Yigal Levin suggestedthat this is the result of losses of the Russian Armed Forces.
“Tanks of the 2016 model are the most advanced version of this T-72. Probably their number in the occupying forces had decreased to such an extent that knocking one out became a rare occurrence.“Levine wrote.
Now, he noted, most often the Ukrainian Armed Forces burn hastily produced T-72 tanks manufactured in 2022. This is a model with simplified modernization, since the Russian Federation, due to sanctions, has lost access to high-quality military technologies.
Also, a significant share of the Russian Federation’s losses still consists of old, not modernized T-72s.
Note that, according to Vereker, during the full-scale war against Ukraine, Russia lost 1,163 T-72 tanks of various modifications. Most often, the Ukrainian Armed Forces destroyed the T-72B3 (302 units), of which 261 units were modernized in 2016.
Earlier, the Ukrainian Armed Forces stopped the Russian T-72B3 tank, after which they finished it off from a distance.
