The new Russian nuclear-powered submarine, “Emperor Alexander III,” carried out a successful test launch of a Bulava ballistic missile from the White Sea, according to the Russian Ministry of Defense, which announced that it had responded to a Ukrainian missile attack on a shipyard in the Crimean Peninsula, while the Kremlin described Russian-American relations as being on the verge of Zero distance.
The Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement carried by the Russian Sputnik Agency: “Within the final phase of the government testing programme, the new nuclear-powered strategic missile submarine Emperor Alexander III successfully launched an intercontinental ballistic missile from the White Sea towards the Kura site (military test site) in Kamachka Peninsula.
According to the Russian Defense Ministry, the submarine launched the missile from an underwater location, and it reached its target on time.
This is the first test of its kind in about a year, after Russia canceled its ratification of the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty, as Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law Thursday canceling Moscow’s ratification of the treaty.
In February, Moscow suspended its participation in the “New START” nuclear disarmament treaty signed between Russia and the United States in 2010, which is the last bilateral agreement linking Moscow and Washington.
“Scratch”
Yesterday, the Kremlin described Russian-American relations as having reached “point zero.” Sputnik quoted Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov as saying that relations between Russia and the United States have reached zero and even less than zero. However, since the two countries bear a special responsibility for global and strategic stability, in one way or another, it is necessary to Resume dialogue over time.
Peskov noted that the US President should take a more positive stance towards Russia to enable communications at the highest level. He said in response to a question about the conditions under which contacts could be held between the presidents of Russia and America: “First, this must be with a mutual desire and mutual readiness, and certain conditions must be created.”
Ukraine front
Meanwhile, the Commander of the Ukrainian Air Force, Lieutenant-General Mykola Oleshchuk, said on his channel on the Telegram application yesterday that a Ukrainian missile hit a new Russian naval ship in the port of Kerch in the Crimean Peninsula. Oleschuk had previously published a video clip showing the attack, but it was not clear from the video whether the ship had actually been struck.
The Russian Interfax agency reported that the shipyard was subjected to a missile attack on Saturday. She added, quoting the Ministry of Defense, which confirmed that a ship was damaged, that of the 15 missiles that targeted the dockyard, the air defenses shot down 13 “Storm Shadow” and “Neptune” anti-ship missiles, and also shot down 17 drones.
Destruction of warehouses
The ministry reported that Russian forces destroyed weapons depots at both the Dnieper and Mirgorod airports belonging to the Ukrainian forces.
The Russian Defense Ministry stated in a statement that Russian aircraft bombed 133 sites belonging to Ukrainian forces during the past 24 hours, including warehouses for air missiles in Dnepropetrovsk.
A weapons depot belonging to the Ukrainian forces at the Dnieper airport, and aviation equipment at the Mirgorod airport, were also destroyed.
Russian Defense announced that Ukrainian forces suffered losses amounting to 285 soldiers, two armored vehicles, and six military vehicles in Zaporozhye and Donetsk during the past 24 hours.
