Russian Su-35 intercepts Polish aircraft patrolling for EU border agency over Black Sea

Jakarta

Fighter jets Russia intercepted a Polish aircraft patrolling for the EU border agency over the Black Sea. As a result the pilot temporarily lost control of the plane.

Reported by AFP, Polish border troops declared the plane Sukhoi The Russian Su-35 did not make radio contact before carrying out an aggressive and dangerous maneuver, approaching the border guard aircraft three times without maintaining the required safety distance.

“The Polish aircraft encountered significant turbulence and the crew temporarily ‘lost control of the aircraft and lost altitude’,” said a statement issued by the Warsaw side on Sunday (7/5/2023).

Warsaw officials said the Russian plane flew directly in front of the plane’s nose and crossed its path at a distance of about five meters.

Meanwhile, the Romanian Ministry of Defense on Saturday evening first reported the incident. Romania condemned Moscow’s “aggressive and dangerous” behavior.

Romania said a Polish border guard plane was on a routine Frontex patrol with Romanian border police Friday when it was intercepted.

After that, the Polish plane landed safely in Romania.

Romania in its statement added that the Romanian and Spanish aircraft were given “advance warning” by NATO when the incident occurred.

“It happened “in international airspace over the Black Sea,” about 60 kilometers (37 miles) east of Romanian airspace, the ministry said.

“This incident is further evidence of the provocative approach of the Russian Federation in the Black Sea,” Bucharest said.

Contacted by AFP, European border agency Frontex did not immediately respond.

Polish aircraft have been deployed in Romania from April 19 and will remain there until May 17, part of the Frontex operation organized by Romania which also includes Spain and Sweden.
