Okuyeva’s husband, Adam Osmayev, who survived the attack, believes that the assassination was organized by Russian special services in revenge for the couple’s active participation in the Self-Respect Revolution of Ukraine and joining Ukrainian forces in the war in Donbass.
Ukrainian police said this week that Redkin is in Hungary.
The Ukrainians sent a request for Redkin’s extradition to the General Prosecutor’s Office of Hungary, but the court rejected it, justifying its decision by the fact that there is a war going on in Ukraine.
Ukrainian police arrested Redkin and three other unnamed individuals in 2020. They were accused of the assassination of Okuyev and Osmayev in Kyiv in 2017. In 2021, the appeals court placed Redkin under house arrest.
Authorities believe Redkin managed to flee Ukraine days after Russia’s full-scale invasion in February 2022.
