A Russian-speaking man flew from Copenhagen to Los Angeles without a passport. According to the cabin crew, he behaved strangely and aroused suspicion. The man risks a prison sentence of five years.
The man, whose nationality is not known, is said to have slipped through the controls at the airport of the Danish capital Copenhagen, writes The Guardian.
He arrived in Los Angeles, America, on November 4 without a passport or boarding pass. The man told authorities he left his passport on the plane. But that turns out not to be true.
The Scandinavian Airlines crew was suspicious of the man because he kept changing seats during the flight. He also asked for two meals. He also wanted to take chocolate from the staff.
Man ‘doesn’t know’ how he got through security
The man was not on the passenger list. Customs officers were therefore unable to retrieve his details. Later he turned out to be a stowaway who managed to board after the checks. It is not clear exactly how that was possible.
The man later said that he had not slept in three days and did not understand what was going on. He says he cannot remember how he got through security without a boarding pass.
The man is scheduled to appear in court on December 26. He could face up to five years in prison if convicted. Flying as a stowaway is a crime under American law.
