The Ukrainian Iryna P.* († 52) and her daughter Karolina (29) tried in front of the Russian troops to flee the city of Kharkiv. The mother died as a result. Now Karolina tells the British newspaper “The Sun” how this drama came about.
“My mother was behind the wheel of the car and she panicked. We stopped and saw two Russian soldiers. We feared the worst, but they actually helped.” The two soldiers tried to hide the women near some garages.
“When I looked up, there was blood everywhere”
They stayed with them for 15 minutes. But then they were discovered by another group of soldiers. They opened fire. Karolina says one of the friendly soldiers begged the attackers to stop firing. “He started crying. There was a lot of screaming.”
Karolina says she kept her head down. “All I could hear was gunshots. When I looked up there was blood everywhere. I was convinced I was going to die.”
Daughter escaped in car
She got a splinter, but was only injured, Karolina continued. Her mother, on the other hand, was hit in the head by a bullet. “I got up and started shaking because I could see my mother. I saw that she was hit and realized that she was dead. I was so scared. I couldn’t believe what had happened.”
One of the two friendly soldiers was also fatally hit, the other was injured. Karolina and the surviving soldier finally managed to get into a car and escape. “Nobody deserves that. We tried to escape. It’s terrible, »says Karolina. “It ruined my life. I am devastated with grief.”
She does not provide any further information on the fate of the Russian soldier. The incident is said to have happened in February. The exact course of events cannot yet be confirmed by an additional source.
