Russian Soldiers and Mercenaries Casualties in War Against Ukraine: Death Toll Estimates and NATO Reports

Between February 24, 2022 and the end of November this year, 50,000 Russian soldiers and 20,000 mercenaries of the “Wagner” group have died in the war against Ukraine.

Another 180,000 to 240,000 soldiers and 40,000 mercenaries were injured, the report said.

“Thus, the estimated number of Russian soldiers lost in the fighting is between 290,000 and 350,000,” the ministry said.

Both sides carefully hide the data on the fallen, so it is impossible to get confirmation of the estimates.

According to NATO estimates, the number of fallen and wounded Russian soldiers exceeded 300,000 at the end of November.

In the summer, the New York Times, citing US government officials, reported that 120,000 Russians had died and 170,000 to 180,000 were wounded.

According to estimates, 70,000 Ukrainian soldiers fell, 100,000 to 120,000 were wounded, the newspaper reported.
