PARIS, November 1. /TASS/. Russian Roman Safiullin beat the second racket of the world, Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, in the second round match of the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Masters tournament in Paris.
The meeting ended with a score of 6:3, 6:4 in favor of Safiullin, who made it into the main draw of the tournament through qualification. Alcaraz was seeded number two. In the third round, Safiullin will play with Russian Karen Khachanov, who has the 16th seed.
Safiullin is 26 years old and is ranked 45th in the world. The Russian has not won any ATP tournaments. Safiullin’s best result at Grand Slam tournaments is reaching the quarterfinals of Wimbledon (2023).
Alcaraz is 20 years old and has 12 victories in ATP tournaments, 6 of which he won in 2023. The Spaniard has won the Grand Slam tournaments twice – at the US Open (2022) and Wimbledon (2023).
The tournament in Paris is held on a hard surface and belongs to the Masters series. The total prize fund of the tournament exceeds €5.77 million. The current winner of the competition is Danish tennis player Holger Rune.
